Aluminium Extrusion Line with
35 MN, 11 inch Wellman Press
Scope of Supply
Press:
One 11” 35 MN aluminium extrusion press, produced by Wellman in 1969.
Danielli Breda rebuilt the press from the original Wllman around 2003. A new crosshead and moving stem were made, the front-plate and columns were changed, and a new loader was installed.
Originally made as a 35 MN press, it is now running at 37,1 MN maximum with possibility up to 38,0 MN maximum. Again refurbished in 2008.
The press runs with five cylinders (main cylinder, side cylinders and pull-back cylinders). The oil tank is located above the press with most pumps placed on top of the oil tank. The press runs with 4 main pumps (190 bar), 6 auxillary pumps (70 - 140 bar), 2 container sealing pumps (300 bar) and a pump for billet-loader and slide. Hydraulics are mainly supplied by Hydratech.
Press opening is 300 mm diameter and 450 mm maximum width.
Billet diameter 11” (container Ø 280 mm)
Maximum billet length 1100 mm.
Billet loader and moving stem, hydraulic butt shear.
The container has temperature control with heating and cooling.
Tool stack 590 x 590 mm??.
Press control PLCs mainly from Allan Bradly (PLC – 5)
Billet handling:
Automatic log storage with billet saw, two piece welding (friction stir) and chip compactor. Capacity ca. 600 t with 272 mm billet. Delivered by IUT in 1999.
Two induction billet heaters in series, one base heater to 250-350‘C ( one spare coil Guntmag) and a 4 sone coil taper heater up to typically 480‘C ( two spare coils for the taperheater). Both heaters delivered by Banyard LTD. Capacity up to 6000 kg/h.
Die handling:
Die oven delivered by IUT in 2010. Automatic handling of dies with 4 buffer positions. Electrical heated with 8 chambers each with 2 positions for dies up to 590 mm diameter. Possibility for overshoot heating to reduce cycle time.
Sandblaster from CM Italy, type CM1000/2T year 1998. Rinsing bath and various handling equipment delivered by ITK.
Die crane: 5 ton traverse crane which cover the press area
Profile handling:
Profile quench delivered by ILM Smith in 1999. Including both air, water spray and standing wave. There are 2 air fans and 3 Grundfors water pumps plus one large water pump for the standing wave.
Double DC puller with flying saw delivered by ILM Smith in 1989.
Run length about 55m. Run out length for profile
Cooling table from Edwards 1987.
Stretcher from Smith Engineering ,1986. Stretching force 100 ton, clamping force 90 ton.
Profile saw from Smith Aluminium, 1996. Maximum saw width 1200 mm and height 220 mm. Saw mounted underneath the table. Saw end-stop from 1992.
Ageing:
There are 2 electrically heated ageing ovens with floor transport. One smaller for 4 skips, each 14 m long,. One larger oven for 6 skips up to 16,2 m long, alternatively with 2 shorter skips in the length. There is asbestos insulation that have been enclosed.
Spare parts:
Container: Two spare containers. One with length 1050 mm, an one with 1100 mm. Both relined at the moment.
Stem: One spare stem.
Mainpumps: One mainpump, which have been run for a few years.
In addition to that there is spindles to the saws, gears for loader and coolingtable, a lot of different electric motor. Different valves for the hydraulic system etc.
